DETROIT — The scene in a neighborhood on this city’s southwest side over the weekend looked, according to Jose Franco, like the type of immigration sweep many in this predominantly Latino community had been fearing for months.
Swarms of nearly 150 local and federal agents had cordoned off several blocks. Residents warned each other not to speak to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials at the scene. Others stayed put in their homes, to avoid being rounded up in the chaos. | Read more here.
